Khalkh River
The Khalkh River, or Khalkhyn Gol, is a river flowing through the northeastern part of Eurasia. It flows through the eastern part of Mongolia and the northeastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. The right bank of the river is higher than the left bank, so it was named such because it appears to shield like a wall when viewed from the east. This 233 km long river originates from a place elevated 1443 meters above sea level in the Greater Khingan Mountains, flows through the territory of Hulunbuir city, enters Mongolia, flows through the territory of Khalkhgol soum of Dornod Province, and winds along to define the border line of the two countries before flowing into Buir Lake. Near the Khalkh River in 1939, a war broke out between the Japanese and Manchukuo sides and the USSR and Mongolia.
