Buir Lake
Buir Lake is a freshwater lake located on the border of Eastern Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. Along with the adjacent Hulun or Dalai Lake, it is included in the Hulun-Buir ecological region. In 2004, the lake was registered in the Ramsar Convention’s list of wetlands of international importance. On the southern shore of the lake, a 3-5 meter high sand dam formed by surging waves continues, and in the intervals, small lakes form, some of which connect with the main lake. On the eastern and northern shores, high terraces are located, and because the Khalkh River flows in and the Orshuun River flows out in that area, willows and reeds grow densely along the shore. Because ions such as bicarbonate, chloride, sodium, and calcium predominate in the lake water, it belongs to the bicarbonate-chloride class.
