Ikh Burkhant Complex
35 km north of Sumber, the center of Khalkhgol soum of Dornod Province, at a bend on the western bank of the Khalkh River, there is a wonderful complex called “Ikh Burkhant,” which is a major cultural and historical monument of the Mongolians. It is said that this complex was created between 1859-1864 under the leadership of Bat-Ochiryn Togtokhtor, the Ilden Jün Van of the Setsen Khan Province of Khalkha, who became famous throughout the Mongolian land as To Van. It has a history of being created through the intelligence of nomads, craftsmen, and smiths of the mid-19th century, and the sweat and power of the people, overcoming considerable difficulties. To create the Ikh Burkhant, stones were manufactured by bonding the crystal sand of Buir Lake, the gravel of the Khalkh River, and the white oily clay of Khamar Davaa, and stones of various colors were created using natural ochre paint; the ruins of the place where bricks were manufactured were at a place called Khuurt near the West and East Khalgait of Khalkhgol soum, and the ceramic factory was southwest of Tsagaan Uul.
