Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake

Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake is a freshwater lake located next to the Khorgo Crater in Tariat soum, Arkhangai Province. The lake is 16 kilometers long, 6 kilometers wide, covers an area of 61 square kilometers, and is 20 meters deep. It was formed by the flow of lava from the Khorgo volcano, which blocked the waters of the North and South Terkh rivers, originating from the Khangai mountains.

The lake contains several islands, including a small one called Tolgoi, where black cormorants frequent the lake in the summer to feed on fish. The lake is home to various fish species such as lenok and grayling. More than 10 rivers feed into the lake, the largest being the Terkh River, while the only river flowing out of the lake is the Suman River, which flows 50 kilometers before joining the Chuluut River. In 2011, CNN listed Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake as one of the best places to visit.
