Ulaanbaatar to Tsonjin Boldog Day Tour Itinerary

Recommended itinerary to the popular tourist and resort area of Tsonjin Boldog

Day Tour to Tsonjin Boldog

Tsojin Boldog is a popular destination located between the borders of Ulaanbaatar and Tuv province. It is located only 55 kilometres (34 miles) east of the city along the same direction as Terelj National Park. The area is best known for the enormous Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, 13th Century Complex and a place to relax along the banks of the Tuul River.

To get the best out of your trip to Tsonjin Boldog we have put together a recommended 1-day travel itinerary.

1-Day Itinerary

8am - Morning

Get up early and leave Ulaanbaatar around 8am in the morning east towards Tsonjin Boldog via Nalaikh and see the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue while sipping your morning coffee. After you had explored the complex and climbed atop the horse for a close up view of the Genghis Khan statue, head east for a further 37km to Mongolia’s 13th Century Complex / Village.

12pm - Midday

At the 13th Century Complex, visit all six different themed camps to get a glimpse of what life was like in the 1200s in Mongolia, starting with the King’s Ger Palace, the Herder’s Camp, the Shaman camp, the Education Camp, the Craftsman’s Camp and the Watch Tower. Be sure to play chess at the education camp, and have your name (or memorable phrase) written in calligraphy in the form of traditional Mongolian script.

3pm - Mid-Afternoon

Head back to Genghis Khan Complex and visit one of the many available camps/resorts for relaxing food and drink. We recommend visiting Khaan Jims Camp or Hunnu Camp along the banks of the Tuul River. Take a stroll along the river and explore the area, and climb up the rocky hill for a view of the Genghis Khan statue for another opportunity to capture the Genghis Khan statue at sunset.

7pm - Evening

Head towards Ulaanbaatar at 7-pm, stopping at the gates of the Genghis Khan statue to say goodbye and take the perfect sunset photo of the landscape and the statue. Finally, arrive back at the hotel around 8pm to 8:30-pm, with plenty of time to freshen up for an evening meal and share your wonderful experience.
